金襴について

金襴

金襴（きんらん）は、京都・西陣をはじめとする地域で織られてきた、日本の伝統的な紋織物です。金糸や銀糸、金銀箔などを織り込んだ華やかな文様と、光の角度によって変化する格調高い輝きが特徴です。寺院の装飾や法衣、能装束、帯、掛け軸の表装などに用いられ、その豪華さと精緻な織りの技術から、格式ある場を彩る織物として受け継がれてきました。現在では、バッグや小物、衣服、インテリア製品などにも取り入れられ、日本の伝統美を象徴する織物として高く評価されています。

Kinran Brocade

Kinran is a traditional Japanese patterned brocade woven in regions including Kyoto’s Nishijin district. It is characterized by its ornate motifs created with gold and silver threads or metallic foil, as well as its refined brilliance, which changes subtly depending on the angle of the light. Traditionally used for temple decorations, Buddhist vestments, Noh costumes, obi belts, and hanging-scroll mountings, Kinran has long been treasured as a textile that brings elegance and prestige to ceremonial settings. Today, it is also used for bags, accessories, clothing, and interior decor, and is highly regarded as a textile that embodies the beauty of Japan’s traditional craftsmanship.
